Ferulic Acid
An organic compound derived from plant cells, ferulic acid is an antioxidant found in fruits, vegetables, and grains. It is primarily used in anti-aging skincare due to its ability to fight free radicals (known to contribute to premature aging). Ferulic acid can also enhance the efficacy of other antioxidants, such as vitamins C and E.
At Dr. Sylvia Skin Care, we use ferulic acid in our vitamin C serum. This is because it can increase the stability and effectiveness of L-ascorbic acid (the purest form of vitamin C), as well as discourage photoaging and help minimize sun damage. There is also the added benefit of evening skin tone.
Ferulic acid in skincare can:
- Calm the skin
- Help firm and tighten the appearance of the skin
- Boost and stabilize vitamins C and E
- Help protect the skin (from environmental stressors)
- Reduce the visibility of aging
As ferulic acid acts as a booster and stabilizer to other vitamins and antioxidants, it can make the product more effective in fighting skin damage. It is usually added to anti-aging serums, eye creams, sunscreens, and brightening products.
